For is there any practice less selfish, any labor less alienated, any time less wasted, than preparing something delicious and nourishing for people you love?”

By Michael Pollen, activist and author who explores the socio-cultural impacts of food in books like The Botany of Desire and The Omnivore’s Dilemma.

When I read this quote for the first time, it made instinctive sense to me; I felt as if I have always known it to be true, perhaps not consciously. But at a molecular level, in the depths of my being. I knew because I grew up eating food that my mother prepared from scratch every single day, three times a day. Her food is simple and delicious, cooked with immense attention and love.

Watching Michale Pollen talk about food, the joy of cooking and then sharing with friends; the power of a shared meal to create bonds, it motivated me to start cooking seriously, for friends, families and myself few years ago. At some point that intention took the form of this blog.  Moreover, I  have always wanted to share the joy I have had eating my mom’s food.

It’s been quite a journey; sometimes frustrating but immensely joyful and satisfying as recipes takes shape: planning, cooking, styling, photographing, writing and editing. And then watching with slight nervousness, fingers crossed behind my back feeling as I publish each recipe and set it out into the world! A bit like setting the table,  putting the dishes out for your friends and family; hoping that effort was worth it, that seasoning was just right and vegetables weren’t overcooked and that your friends will love it.

Now that I have been writing recipes for over a year, I felt like I am ready to start spreading my wings and get the word out a bit more…
